File extension

A file extension is nothing more than the last characters after the period in the name of a file.

FILExt is a database of file extensions and the various programs that use them. If you know the file extension you want to learn about simply enter it into the search box on the left and click on the Search button. If it's in any of the FILExt databases the data we have on that file extension will be shown on a results page. If it's not in any of the databases you will be given a link to a page with hints on how to do further research. Don't search on terms; just file extensions and only one at a time please. There will be another search box on the results page if you have multiple searches to do.
It's possible that the search will give you multiple results as there is no central registry for file extensions. If so, you will have some detective work to do; read the results page carefully as there will be hints on how to do this detective work.
Can I Make Coming to FILExt Easier?
Yes. If you find FILExt useful you can come here to the proper search page using a variety of methods...
Come directly from Windows. Use FILExt Direct to change your registry so you come here when you click on a file Windows does not know how to open.
Come via Google Toolbar. Add a button to your Google toolbar so when you highlight a file extension and click on the button you come directly to FILExt with your search.
Come via Firefox Search. Add FILExt to your Firefox search box and come directly via a search box entry.
Use a Google Desktop Gadget. FILExt has a Google Desktop Gadget which allows you to add basic search to your desktop with links to specific pages once you've found what you want.

Intel launches core 2 duo extreme processor

Intel has today unveiled Core 2 Duo desktop processor and Core 2 Extreme processor in India.
According to Intel, the new Core 2 Duo desktop processor would deliver improve performance, increase energy efficiency and provide improved system performance, while the Core 2 Extreme processor is designed to provide enhanced performance for games and advanced digital media creation applications.
New Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built using Intel’s 65-nanometer silicon process technology and according to Intel, the desktop PC based on Core 2 Duo would offers up to a 40 percent increase in performance, and is over 40 percent more energy-efficient than its predecessor.
The Core 2 Duo series comprises five desktop PC processors targeted at the business, home, enthusiasts, and gaming segments. Core 2 Duo-based workstations are aimed at areas including design, content creation, and technical computing.

Among the chips announced by Intel are five processors designed for laptops and five desktop chips, including the high-end Core 2 Extreme processor for gamers. Pricing for the desktop chips ranges from $183 for the 1.86-GHz Core 2 Duo E6300 to $999 for the 2.93-GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800. Pricing for the mobile chips was not available. Intel Core 2 Duo processors are rated at 65 watts while the Core 2 ExtreThe Intel Core 2 Duo processor is based on Intel’s Core microarchitecture, an offshoot of its work over the last decade to shift away from chasing clock speed as the holy grail of performance. Processors based on the Core microarchitecture, like Core 2 Duo, do more work per clock cycle. Intel designers managed to developed a more sophisticated cache memory design to improve chip performance and alleviate the inefficiencies between the processor and the main memory.
Sean Tucker, a product manager at HP explains that the new Intel Core 2 Duo processors runs at slower cpu clock speeds than existing Pentium range of processors but is still more productive because it handles more calculations per clock cycle. Thanks to that slower speed, Core 2 Duo chips need less electricity, drawing just 65 watts compared with the Pentium 4’s 95 W and the Pentium D’s 130 W, he added.Advanced Digital Media Boost that effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used in multimedia and graphics applications; and 64 Technology that supports 64-bit computing.
According to PC manufacturers, the Core 2 Duo, formerly called Conroe and Merom, offers excellent performance for its price, allowing them to reach new markets.
HP declared that company will use the Core 2 Duo chip in its new xw4400 workstation, replacing the Intel Pentium 4 and Pentium D chips used in the xw4300 model. HP sells that line primarily to users running compute-intensive applications like mechanical computer-aided design and digital content creation.
While Core 2 Duo based desktop systems are already available in markets, Core 2 Duo processor based notebooks PCs are expected to be available in September 2006.me CPU are rated at 75 watts

Dell inspiron laptop

The Inspiron 2100's svelte 1-inch profile and 3.5-pound weight belie the power packed inside the rugged magnesium alloy case. The $1899 base unit sports a 700-MHz Pentium III processor; a 5GB hard drive; 64MB of RAM; a 12.1-inch, 1024 by 768 active-matrix screen; an ATI Rage Mobility graphics card with 4MB of SGRAM; a 56-kbps V.90 modem; a 10/100 ethernet port; and your choice of either Windows Millennium or 2000. In addition, you get a Type II PC Card; USB, monitor, parallel, and PS/2 ports to accompany an external drive bay; and a built-in microphone. On the other hand, a CD-ROM drive will cost you an extra $99.
The fancier $2223 shipping unit I tested was spruced up with Windows Me, a nearly 10GB hard drive, 128MB of SDRAM, and an optional convertible external drive bay that held Dell's $199 DVD-ROM drive. I found typing quite comfortable on the 95-percent-of-standard-size keyboard, and Dell's Synaptics Touchpad was remarkably responsive.
The unit's battery life of 2.5 hours is about average for a notebook today. The 2100's performance was respectable, too: Its PC WorldBench 2000 score of 127 is in line with the marks recorded by other notebooks with its configuration.
The Dell Inspiron 2100 may be just right for users who seek a laptop that can fit any carrying case as well as handle a much larger PC's workload.

Dell inspiron laptop

The Dell Inspiron 1520 series consists of two models. The Inspiron 1520 is built around an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and (in the case of higher-end models) the new Centrino Duo platform, while the Inspiron 1521 trades Intel for an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor and chipset. Aside from processor choices, Dell is also offering color choices: if buyers don't like the traditional white or black case, they can opt for red, blue, green, yellow, brown, or pink. We've seen colorful laptops before--most recently in the Sony VAIO CR series--but we've never seen a colored laptop with as many configuration options as the Dell Inspiron 1520 series offers. Add to that such media-friendly options as a built-in Webcam or Blu-Ray disc drive, and the Dell Inspiron 1520 series will definitely appeal to home users who want a solid all-around laptop with a high degree of customization

Though the Inspiron 1520 series' feature set is largely average for the midsize category, a few key items stand out. For example, the laptop's 15.4-inch wide-screen display can be configured with a sharp 1,440x900 or even sharper 1,920x1,200 native resolution. Users who want always-on connectivity can opt for integrated WWAN from Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T (though you'll have to subscribe to the carriers' data service). And buyers of the Intel-based Inspiron 1520 will have the option to include a Blu-Ray drive in their system--still a rare choice outside the realm of premium desktop replacement laptops. Of course, these finer features will drive the Inspiron 1520 series well above the $749 starting price, but many home users will appreciate the option to customize their laptop to fit their needs and lifestyles.
Dell has also borrowed a few handy design features from its other laptop lines and incorporated them into the Inspiron 1520 series. First, media controls along the front edge, similar to those found on the XPS line of laptops, let you easily control disc playback. From the Latitude line, the Inspiron 1520 has adopted a built-in Wi-Fi Catcher, which lets you detect wireless networks even when the laptop's lid is closed or the computer is powered off.

As often happens with configurable laptops, the price of the Dell Inspiron 1520 series can vary widely depending on your component and feature choices. But we even like the look of the baseline Inspiron 1520 configuration, which incorporates a Core 2 Duo T5250 processor (based on Intel's previous-generation architecture), 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive for $849. Buyers looking for an even lower price can opt for the baseline Inspiron 1521, which trades the Intel processor for an AMD Turion 64 X2 and costs just $749. These budget-friendly processors won't outrun the latest-generation components, but they should prove sufficient for most home users' needs
